All City of
Vineland Volunteers, Trainers and Coaches Must Meet Fingerprinting & Background Check
Requirements.
The City of Vineland requires all
coaches, trainers & volunteers to be fingerprinted and background checked to ensure
the safety of the participants in all youth programs.
The Fingerprinting/background checks
are being conducted by a private company under contract to the State of New
Jersey. The program called "CHECK 'EM OUT" is sponsored by the
Megan Kanka Foundation, and is being paid for by a
grant to the foundation. The grant money will only be available until
March. After that individual volunteers would be responsible for the
roughly $30 cost.
The process is
quick and easy to do and is good for 3 years. If you are considering
coaching in Vineland Scoocer or anywhere in the city
of Vineland in the next 3 years it makes sense to take advantage of this
program and grant money.
To register for the fingerprinting
process you will need to obtain the form from Patty Ruberti, she is
coordinating this process for VSA. Please contact Patty to arrange to get
your form, she can be reached at: 609-774-3603 or coachpatty09@yahoo.com
Once you
receive your form please follow the instruction on the Finger Printing

"CHECK
'EM OUT"
"Check 'Em
Out" was developed by the Megan Nicole Kanka
Foundation to help non-profit sports organizations in New Jersey pay for state
and federal fingerprint checks on their coaches and managers.
New Jersey law allows non-profit organizations throughout the state to apply
through the New Jersey State Police Bureau of Identification to have background
checks done.
Because of the increasing awareness of child sexual abuse and newspaper
accounts of coaches in New Jersey who were arrested for allegedly molesting
children on their teams, the foundation created the "Check 'Em Out" Program to help pay for fingerprint background
checks through grant funding.
In the event
that an individual has a conviction on either the state or federal level, the
State Police Bureau of Identification will notify the head of the organization
that the individual has a record. The organization head is not given any
personal information on the individual's conviction only that the individual is
not recommended to coach.
