GRADE 8 YOUTH REFEREE CLASSES

Vineland Senior Center (South East corner of Sixth & Elmer Streets)
on Thursday, July 1, 2010.
Class starts promptly at 6 pm and is a three hour class.

events page to print out the registration form.

Registration for the class is $28.00 and payment in cash or check
to be made out to the Vineland Recreation Trust Fund.

Vineland Galaxy 4 Jersey Knights Fire 5 (OT)
The Galaxy were eliminated from the USYSA National Championship Series in a wild Semi-Final affair in Holmdel, NJ on Saturday, May 22. The Fire struck first but Mitchell Grotti answered quickly placing his own rebound into goal. Before the half ended the Fire headed a free kick to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. The teams battled late into the second half upon which a scoring frenzy took place. The Jersey Knight team again headed a free kick into the Galaxy net to take a 3-1 advantage. Kevin Bauman as he has done throughout his career got things started for the Galaxy. Bauman deflected a cross in the box to teammate Eric Ciancaglini who drove the ball, goalie and defenders across the goal line. Minutes later Zaire Putmon buried a strike from 18 yards out to tie up the score 3-3 to end regulation.

The teams entered the two fifteen minute overtime period with a chance to compete on Sunday for a State title. The Galaxy came out strong controlling the ball and were rewarded when Luke Bencie finished a Matt Bik cross in the first overtime period. The Galaxy took a 4-3 lead into the second and had a chance to put the game away when awarded a penalty kick. The Fire stopped the PK and began an offensive attack that resulted in two more goals from free kicks to give the Fire the victory.

Galaxy players who competed in this years competition were Kevin Bauman, Luke Bencie, Brandon Bezak, Matthew Bik, Billy Boss, Eric Ciancaglini, Corey Cedermark, Tyler Callahan, Mitchell Grotti, Jose Islas, David Jarema, Matthew Macey, Mark Malusa, Patrick McCord, Justin Tenbrook, Zaiere Putmon, Matthew Veltri & Alexander Zeidler.

The Galaxy's last games will take place next week in Vineland's Memorial Day Tournament.

Galaxy U-18B plays this weekend for the NJYS National Championship Series (State Cup). The Semi-final is Saturday at Cross Farm Fields in Holmdel at 3:00PM vs the Jersey Knights Fire.

The final is Sunday at 2:00PM in Holmdel vs the winner of TSF Academy/Boca Alliance. Info can be found at this link.

Vineland Galaxy 5 Pasco Stallions 4 (PK)
On Sunday the Galaxy traveled a long way up the Garden State Parkway to Wayne NJ to play their quarterfinal National Championship series against Regional powerhouse Pasco Stallions.

The teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation time with Matt Bik getting the lone tally. After two scoreless 15 minute overtime periods, the teams went into penalty kicks. Matt Bik, Matt Veltri, Matt Macey, Justin Tenbrook & Eric Ciancaglini each buried their chances. Alex Zeidler denied one of the Stallions attempts for the victory. The Galaxy will complete their CUP quest next weekend.

Vineland Galaxy 1 Kearney United 2 (OT)
A US CLUB NJ Cup semifinal match was held at Mercer County Park on Saturday, May 15.

The Galaxy were put in an early hole after Kearney was awarded a penalty kick midway through the first half. Mitch Grotti scored an equalizing goal to start the second half, and both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of regulation time.

Galaxy goalie Alex Zeidler made multiple aerobatic saves and kept the Vineland team in the match. The teams again exchanged chances in the overtime period and Kearney scored in the final minute. The U-19 Kearney team went on to defeat the Toms River Wizards 5-3 in the final.

Vineland Galaxy 2 Ocean City Barons 1
A US CLUB NJ Cup quarterfinal match was held on Sunday, May 9 in Vineland.

The Ocean City Barons brought a touch of the English Premier League with them. Dressed in their new Reading FC uniforms, the Barons came to Vineland with the idea of advancing. The Galaxy had other plans with the home team getting on the scoreboard in the first minute with Matt Bik finishing a pass from Luke Bencie. Galaxy players Mitch Grotti, Matt Veltri & Eric Ciancaglini provided 1st half scoring chances. The teams battled the wind and each other until the Barons scored late in the half.

A defensive battle was displayed for much of the second half with Justin Tenbrook, Matt Macey, Mark Malusa, Kevin Bauman & Billy Boss controlling the Baron attackers. By the midway point of the half the Galaxy midfield took control of the game. Corey Cedermark & David Jarema combined with Ciancaglini, Bencie & Veltri to possess the ball and provide finishing chances for Zaire Putmon, Grotti & Bik. After a few shots off the crossbar Zaiere Putman found the back of the net in the 77th minute to give the Galaxy a 2-1 victory. Goalie Tyler Callahan was outstanding in keeping the Baron sharpshooters out of the net.

The Galaxy will play the Semi-final match next Saturday at Mercer County Park. The team will also travel to Passiac County for a National Championship series quarterfinal matchup with the Pasco Stallions on Sunday.

Registration for the VSA 2010-2011 Intramural Program
(Fall and Spring Seasons) will begin on Saturday, May 8.

All children interested in playing in the Fall (September 2010) must be registered
—either online or in-person—by Wednesday, June 30 in order to be placed on a team.

After June 30, names and contact information will be taken
should there be openings on the Fall teams.
This does not guarantee team placement in the Fall.

Registration Fee $80/Player
Fee covers both Fall and Spring Seasons and includes shirt, shorts and socks.

Registrations received Wednesday, June 9 through
Wednesday, June 30 will be charged a $10 late fee.
